PRAISE THE LORD SAINTS!  It is inporant for us to know and to understand our doctrine of Faith and in what we believe. Peter warns us that in the last days, scoffers will come:
Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

It is necessary and notwworthy that we know the times and seasons that we live in today!

I will cover 4 main points Paul makes in 1st Thessalonians:

  1. The Model Church
  2. The Doctrine of the Lord’s coming
  3. The Model Servant and Reward
  4. The revelation of the rapture of the Church
  5. The Model walk and Day of the Lord.

The Model Church

Be it known that 1st and 2nd Thessalonians are the only Epistles that are addressed to the Church.

Romans, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians are addressed to the ‘Saints”.  1st and 2nd Corinthians are addressed to “the church of God at Corinth”, and Galatians to the “churches of Galatia”.

The Model Church is noted in Chapter 1: 5-10

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Verse 5 gives reason that the Gospel was not received in word only, but in power.

In chapter one Paul reveals some of the doctrines of Christian faith.

  1. The Trinity – Verses 1:1 and 5-6

Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

As be noted, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost is mention in the verses and speaks of their conversion.

Verses 7-8 Paul speaks about how they were examples.

So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing.

Not only were they examples in word and deed, but every place the went they sounded out the word of the Lord that was given to them by Paul.

This is what the Macedonians and Achaias saw in the Thessalonians.  We must take note of what is stated in verse 7, “to all that believe” speaks of their Faith!  Remember, in Verse 6, Paul talks about the Thessalonians as “having received the word in much affliction, with JOY of the Holy Ghost;”.  This is what the Macedonians and Achaias saw.

The hope of the Thessalonians Paul reveals in verses 9-10:

For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

There is much contained in these verses, of which I will cover briefly.  Verse 9 reveals how they turned to God from worshiping idols to serve the living and true God.  Remember, Paul spent only 3 sabbaths in Thessalonica before he had to departed.  From this you can see just how effective is the word of God!

In Verse 10 Paul begins to reveal to us to wait for his Son from heaven.  Paul tells the Thessalonians that Jesus is coming again and we will be delivered from the wrath to come.  And what wrath is coming?  The tribulation.  Jesus Himself speaks of this in Matthews 24:42:

42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.

Additionally, Jesus in Matthew 25:13 gives us more insight:

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Do you see what Jesus said?  He said “the Son of man cometh”  The Son of man is the crucified Messiah, the one who died for our sins is who is coming again.  That is why Paul tell the Thessalonians in verse 10 to WAIT.
